About us

Mangum Design-Build was founded to create architecturally significant, enduring residences for clients that desire exclusivity through the art of European Understatement. We serve a private clientel of global travelers, innovators, and leaders who value architecture that speaks quietly, yet profoundly, of excellence and distinction.

Time spent across European jobsites - from Munich to Milan - and fluency in multiple languages allowed Kevin to forge direct relationships with artisans, contractors, and suppliers around the world.

Mangum Family Background

Mangum Design-Build is layered with innovation upon innovation, the creative force behind Glenhill in Raleigh, North Carolina, and the first California Contemporary residences in the Triangle area. Founded in 2004, Mangum Design-Build earned a reputation for delivering period-specific architectural homes marked by clarity and innovation.

The Mangum family’s roots run deep within the fabric of the Triangle community. Landmarks like Mangum Street in downtown Durham and Mangum Hall at UNC Chapel Hill reflect a generational legacy of influence spanning over 5 generations. Separate Mangum enterprises have included road building, construction equipment distribution (Triangle Equipment), and landscape materials supply (Triangle Landscape Supplies).

In the early 1990’s, his family expanded into real estate development, partnering on medical office projects around Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, office projects adjacent to Rex Hospital, and afar afield as Savannah, Georgia, and Marsh Harbor, Bahamas.

Kevin Mangum’s Background

Since forming Mangum Design-Build, Kevin has helped to create a diverse, multifaceted design/build firm focused on creating a new benchmark for high end residential and commercial projects. His extensive travels overseas has helped curate a small, exclusive supplier network that helps to deliver unique, and sophisticated projects to our clients.

Kevin grew up in the construction equipment business, representing the 4th generation of small business ownership. He has over 20 years working in a diverse background in design, construction, development, finance, and imports, bringing an international perspective to projects.

Kevin was born in Cary, North Carolina, and raised cross-culturally, with family in and around Munich, Germany. His morning news comes from German news radio, and as a result, knows about all the traffic jambs in Bavaria.

Kevin is a UNC-CH alum, and a former diver on UNC’s ACC 1998 Swimming and Diving Championship team. You’ll frequently see him wearing his trademark Engelbert Strauss pants (affectionately nicknamed Uberhosen), which are available only in Munich.

perdini about us

Quiet Confidence. Global Vision. Enduring Legacy.

Mangum Design Build is North Carolina’s only homebuilder specializing in ultra-luxury custom residences, crafted with globally sourced finishes and designed for discerning clients who value authenticity, privacy, and timeless architecture.

At Mangum Design-Build, we believe true luxury is not mass-produced — it is curated. For our clients, who often own multiple residences across the world, a home is more than a structure. It is a sanctuary, a legacy investment, and a reflection of a lifestyle defined by privacy and sophistication.

Our story begins overseas. From the marble quarries of Italy to the German fabricators of our glazing systems, we travel the world to source rare materials that simply cannot be found in the local marketplace. These exclusive finishes — Italian limestone, Spanish doors, artisan-crafted millwork — are chosen not for trends but for their enduring quality.

We are more than builders. We are curators of global luxury, weaving together architecture, craftsmanship, and exclusive materials into residences that quietly endure for generations.

Mangum Design Build specializes in California Contemporary homes in North Carolina, but our expertise extends to period-specific residences including Italianate villas, English manor estates, and Mediterranean retreats. Whatever the architectural language, our commitment is the same: authentic design, globally sourced finishes, and absolute discretion.
