Italianate I

This client wanted an Italianate architectural exterior and to combine rustic with modern interior elements consistent with homes in Europe. The home features an interior open-air courtyard, rooftop deck, limestone imported from Spain, and a wood ceiling recovered from an old tobacco barn in Eastern North Carolina.

In the primary bathroom, 1200mm x 2400mm (4’x8’) limestone panels were hand selected from Spain and imported. The large format slabs mini-mized grout joints and provided a simple yet elegant design element to the home.

We sourced a Nero Marquina slab from Spain in the northern Basque region, near the French border and the Bay of Biscay. The white marble is from Greece. Both provide contrasting elements to this secondary bathroom.

1200mm x 1200mm (4’x4’) slabs of limestone from Spain cover the first floor, providing a neutral color palette for the residence.

A view from the living room to the staircase. There are repeating styles of curves in the house, delicately placed. A series of 3 symmetrical arches in the foyer carry through to the curved staircase. We used the same species and stain of wood in the cabinetry as the staircase.
